  1. Sam Thomas and Josh Stein

    Cheescake Flan

    Total time: Around 2 hours

    -2 cups of sugar
    -1/4 cup water
    -12 ounces cream cheese
    -3 large eggs
    -1(14oz) can sweetened condensed milk
    -1(12oz) can evaporated milk
    -1/2 cup of milk
    -1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Josh Stein and I decided to make Cheescake Flan. Flan is a traditional dessert ,which almost all hispanic countries serve as a sweet. We had most the ingredients already at home, but we actually got the can of evaporated milk from the Dos Hermanos Supermercado. Yes, everything went smoothly. The only hard part about our cooking was making the drippy caramel. We are very excited to share our masterpiece with the class tomorrow for lunch.

  2. Rosquitos de mandarinas
    – 20 cdas. de harina leudante
    – 1 cdita. de polvo de hornear
    – 2 huevos
    – 4 cdas. de azúcar
    – 100 gr. de manteca
    – ralladura de 1/2 naranja

I got the recipe online. The recipe comes from the Dominican Republic. I chose this recipe because it looked very good and fun to make. In reality it was hard to make because the dough was very sticky tough to manipulate.

  3. Chocolate de Maiz (roasted corn cocoa)
    prep time: 5 minutes
    cook time: 15 minutes
    total: 20 minutes
    ingredients (serves 3 cups)
    – 1 1/2 cups of water
    – 1/3 cup of brown sugar
    – 3 teaspoons of cinnamon
    – 1/2 tablespoon of powdered sugar
    – 3 cups of whole milk
    – 1/2 cup of flour from roasted grains
    – 1/2 tablespoon of freshly grounded nutmeg
This drink originates from the Dominican, I found the recipe on cocinadominicana.com. This drink is best when served hot, and is meant for cold days. This drink is very similar to hot chocolate for us Americans. Preparing was fairly easy and simple, my whole family really enjoyed this drink.

  4. Prep time: 15 minutes then sit in the refrigerator to chill for 30 minutes
    -5 avacados
    -3 jalepeños seeded and chopped
    -1/2 red onion chopped
    -Lime juice
    -Garlic Salt

Guacomole originally began in Mexico by the Aztecs and is now made all around the world. The process of finding all the ingredients to make the Guacomole was pretty simple with no problems. The process of making the Guacomole went very smooth as well.

  5. Glynn Robitaille

For our dish, we made Spanish Rice which is a common food served in Costa Rica. We decided to make this dish because Alec has family from Central America and this is one of the recipes that they had from living there. It took us about 45 minutes to make.

    – 1/4 cup of olive oil
    – 1 cup of onion
    – 1 garlic clove
    – 2 cups of white rice
    – 3 cups of chicken stock
    – tablespoon of tomato paste
    – pinch of oregano
    – 1 teaspoon of salt

The Cuban Flan took about an hour and a half to prepare. There were several steps I needed to do to make the flan. It had simple ingredients, so they weren’t hard to find. I made one small error while making the flan, so I quickly fixed it.

    4 egg yolks
    4 whole eggs
    2 cups milk
    1/4 cup water
    1 1/2 cups sugar
    1 tspn vanilla
    1 lemon peel
    1 cinnamon stick

  7. Corn salsa

    Black beans
    Lime juice
    Red wine vinegar

I choose this dish because it tastes good and I knew how to make it. I got the recipe from my mom who got it from a cook book. The ingredients I used are very popular, so I didn’t have any trouble finding them. While making the salsa I didn’t encounter any problems.

  8. Hola! Phillip and I made Arroz con Leche.

    1/2 cup rice (jasmine)
    1-1/2 cups water
1 small piece of lemon peel
    1 small cinnamon stick
    4 cups milk
    1 cup sugar
    1/4 tsp salt
    1 tsp vanilla extract
    Cinnamon powder

those were the ingredients, though there were a few exceptions to what was actually used. At the time we were unable to find any cinnamon sticks so that was with held(dont worry it will still be delicious) it was only for looks any way. and we had to use white rice, Costco was out of Jasmine when we were getting the ingredients. Phil managed the cooking and I managed finding the recipe along with helping figure out what would be a decent portion size.

some quick thoughts: this dish tastes amazing, it was probably the best tasting cuban style food I have ever had in my entire life. It was easy to put together, and simple to clean up

  9. The Cuban Chicken is a recipe from Cuba. I learned the recipe from my Grandfather. The ingredients were easy to find at my local grocery store. I was pleased with the results the only difficult part was cooking the rice, onions, and chicken at the same time.

  10. 2 tablespoons olive oil
    1 tablespoon paprika
    2 teaspoons dried oregano
salt and black pepper to taste
2 pounds skinless, boneless chicken breasts, cut into 2 inch pieces

    2 tablespoons olive oil, divided
    3 cloves garlic, crushed
1 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
2 cups uncooked short-grain white rice
    1 pinch saffron threads
    1 bay leaf
1/2 bunch Italian flat leaf parsley, chopped
    1 quart chicken stock
    2 lemons, zested

    2 tablespoons olive oil
    1 Spanish onion, chopped
1 red bell pepper, coarsely chopped
1 pound chorizo sausage, casings removed and crumbled
1 pound shrimp, peeled and deveined

We made paella with chicken chorizo and shrimp. It took a long time to mix together the rice and chicken stock and we had to add a bit of water but it was worth it. We made extra for my family to have for dinner last night and they said they really liked it. I think it will be even better today after the rice and chicken had time to soak up some of the flavor.

  11. I made Cuban sandwiches. I had fun making them because ever since I had eaten one in Florida I had wanted to see if I could recreate them at home. Everything ran smoothly when I made them was able to use two pans and a brick to make the sandwiches. I was able to know that they were done when both sides were brown and crisp.

  12. Onions
    Five limes
    Olive oil
    Three pounds of chicken
    five cups White rice

First layer is the rice. Then cook the rice. Then use the one cup of olive oil and the five limes that you squeezed on the rice so the rice doesn’t stick then cover the rice with arugula. Then the next layer is the chicken and then cook with chicken and pour the rest of the mixture (the five limes with olive oil) on the chicken. Put the sautéed onions on top of the chicken.

The reciepe was from peters grandfather. It was very good. And everything went very well

  13. Flan

    6 tablespoons sugar
    6 eggs
    1 liter of cold milk
    1 teaspoon of vanilla

My experience making this was actually very fun. I enjoyed being the chef and experiencing the cooking of a mexican dish. This was also a pretty easy dish to make, but took my best effort.

  14. Nathan Gaissert
